Antique SPRINGFIELD ARMORY Model 1842 Percussion .69 Cal. Smoothbore MUSKET Mexican-American War / Civil War Musket!
Description: Antique SPRINGFIELD ARMORY Model 1842 Percussion .69 Cal. Smoothbore MUSKET Mexican-American War / Civil War Musket! Here we present a Springfield Armory U.S. Model 1842 Percussion Musket, manufactured circa 1845-51 in Springfield, Massachusetts. From the period of 1844 until 1855, about 275,000 Model 1842 muskets were manufactured at the Springfield and Harpers Ferry Armories, along with some being made by private providers commissioned to assist in production. Along with usage during the Mexican-American War in 1846 through 1848, these would have been in the hands of local militia all over the antebellum United States and used by both combatants at the outbreak of the American Civil War. Sights were not included in the smoothbore’s design, but arrived later as the muskets were rifled later in its life. The Model 1842 was the first regulation percussion musket to be manufactured at both Springfield and Harpers Ferry Armories, as well as the first to be produced by both national armories with fully-interchangeable parts. These were also the last .69 caliber smoothbore arms to be produced by the U.S. government. The overall condition is very good. Excellent action. Smooth bore in good shape. Solid walnut stock throughout with a cartouche on the left wrist. View and proof marks on the left side of the breech end of the barrel. “1851” dated lock. “1845” dated on the barrel tang. This one has been shortened a bit from the original 42” down to 39 ¼ inches. This includes the stock. The foremost barrel band has been modified and the trigger guard has had the swivel bolster filed out. It looks as though someone intended to use this old musket as a shotgun and streamlined it a bit for their purpose. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 39-1/4 inches. Caliber: .69 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1245 #210622 SOLD Antique: Yes |
