Description: S O L D ... ...SPRINGFIELD US 1795 MODEL TYPE III MUSKET DATED 1811. Likely used in the WAR of 1812...Cal. 69. NSN. Bbl. 42” w/ “P”, eagle head & “V” proofs along w/ “US” at rear & deeply struck indecipherable mark. Standard configuration. Type III lock w/ integral rounded pan, straight top to cock has incorrect style frizzen w/ curled toe but does have spear finial to feather spring. Pan, frizzen, and cock spring are replacements however it does not appear to be a reconversion. Bbl. & lock are reconverted from percussion. Lock w/ new parts. Lock plate is stamped “US” over eagle over "SPRINGFIELD". Tail of lock is dated “1811”. Typical stock has deeply fluted comb & attaches to bbl. w/ 3 spring retained bands. Triggerguard has rounded finials. Buttplate is stamped “1811” on tang. Stock has carved initials “IB” on left side & conjoined “HL” on right. There are also smaller initials carved “ECL” on right side. “US” mark is behind sideplate. The initials “JB” (?) & another inspectors cartouche are behind triggerguard tang. A trumpet head ramrod is present. CONDITION: good as reconverted. Bbl. cleaned to silver & gray w/ remaining brown patches has a considerable amount of fairly deep vice marks. Stock is very fine w/ hand worn patina to original oil finish. No major losses of wood are noted except right side front of bbl. channel w/ 2 fairly lg. chips. Otherwise, bbl. channel is good.....S/H $45....Thanks, Greg 39-43 SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: Springfield Model: m1795 |
