#1442 Springfield 1884 Trapdoor rifle, 404XXX serial range (1889),
Description: #1442 Springfield 1884 Trapdoor rifle, 404XXX serial range (1889), all correct except that it has a “Model 1873” marked replaced 1879 style low-arch breech-trap. Fine 45/70 bore, about an “8” on a scale of 10, fine tight action. This rifle has “MGM” receiver stampings as well as rack number stampings at the rear of the barrel, and while it no doubt was a prop gun in several movies, at least it got good care and is far, FAR better than most movie guns. The metal is smooth with only minor dings and bruises, the wood is VG as well, but does have a few scuffs, such as the one where the cartouche would have been (all that remains is a portion of the top of the cartouche). All in all, it is at least VG/VG+ condition. Definitely much above average for what is seen at this price. $745 SOLD Antique: Yes |
