U.S. Model 1842 .69 caliber smoothbore musket manufactured by Springfield Armory in 1852. These muskets were used at the start of the Civil War and this one looks to have served! Metal has a dark grey patina with some pitting by the barrel tang and nipple area. Wood shows ""combat damage"" on right side of the butt stock, and has faint oval cartouche by the side plate. Musket comes with standard issued bayonet.
