The Model 1896 Krag carbine was used by Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders at the Battle of San Juan Hill and in other Spanish-American War actions. This carbine is close to Rough Rider carbine numbers but is not listed as one. The 22"" round 30 Government center fire caliber (30-40) barrel has an excellent bore. This carbine retains approx. 90% of its original blue finish with wear on the magazine side plate, rear of the magazine box, and barrel blue starting to turn plum. The rear sight is a Model 1896 rifle sight that has been marked with a C. The sling ring and bar are present. The Model 1896 carbine stock is fine with a strong firing proof at the rear of the trigger guard, a very nice JLA over 1898 cartouche on the left wrist, a sound 1896 handguard, and no cracks or chips. The action functions correctly. The price has been adjusted to reflect the rifle rear sight. Model 1896 saddle ring carbines are infrequently encountered today. Don't miss this one!
