The model 1842 was the very first regulation percussion ignition long arm ever produced. It was also the last smoothbore standard issue rifle. This is a standard example in all respects being a .69 cal. smoothbore with a 42" barrel and all iron furniture furnished in the white with no mounted rear sight and the brass front sight blade in on the front fore end band. Original ram rod. Lock and tang are both stamped 1851 with all proper proofs and eagle on lock plate. US marked butt plate. Metal is as new condition with no pitting of any kind. The original nipple and area surrounding are as new as well. Original stock is flawless with a gem mint perfect cartouche. Bore is minty as is the stiff as new action. A near perfect, never used or issued 160 year old plus US military rifle. Would be absolutely impossible to find a finer condition example.
