Springfield Model 1816 US Percussion Musket
Description: US Springfield Model 1816 Musket cone type arsenal conversion to percussion from flintlock. Musket has full length 42" .69 caliber smooth bore barrel with bayonet lug on top of barrel. Barrel has V, P and eagle inspector stamps on side of barrel with light/medium pitting at breech. Muzzle of barrel is not worn or deformed with decent bore. Lock function is crisp with clear lock markings of "Spring Field 1839" on tail of lock and US with an eagle in front of percussion hammer. Both sling swivels are present and are not bent. All iron surfaces have a pleasing grey patina and have not been polished. Stock is solid with visible inspectors marks on flat opposite lock plate. Stock with nicks and chips from use as shown in photos and does not appear to have been refinished. Butt stock has initials carved in it and has a tight age crack at tail of lock plate. Ramrod is an antique replacement and appears to be from an English musket with a 39 inch barrel. Musket is in overall good antique condition. Buyer pays all shipping and insurance charges.
