SRINGFIELD ARMORY MODEL 1816/1829 BELGIAN PERCUSSIAN CONVERSON MUSKET-VERY NICE
Description: U.S. Springfield Model 1816 Percussion Conversion Rifle Manufacturer: Springfield Armory U.S. Model: 1816 Type: Musket Gauge: 69 Barrel: 42 inch round Finish: brown Stock: walnut Class: Antique Description: This is a very fine example of an armory percussion converted U.S. Model 1816 Springfield musket. The conversion consists of a cone type nipple on the barrel, known as the "Belgian Alteration" and installing a percussion hammer. The lock parts have been removed and a brass plate installed in the pan cavity. The rear of the lock is marked "SPRING/FIELD/1829" vertically and the eagle motif over "U.S." is in front of the hammer. The left rear of the barrel is marked with the "P/eagle head/V" proofs. The barrel tang is dated "1829". The front of the lower tang "DB" and the rear of the lower tang "B". Iron mountings, bayonet lug, brass blade front sight on the front barrel band, iron ramrod with a trumpet head and mounted with a smooth full straight grip stock with two crisp oval cartouches on the left flat. "EB/3." and an LV, and oval cartouche directly behind the lower tang and "US" marked buttplate tang. Rating Definition: Very Nice civil war collector rifle. The lock and hammer remain bright with some mild discoloration. The remaining parts retain original brown finish with some minor scratches and wear. The barrel shows areas of corrision around the nipple, and tang. There are no signs of bulges or dents in the barrel. The stock is very fine with a few light handling marks overall. The markings are crisp. Mechanically excellent. SOLD |
