Description: “TANKER” U.S. SPRINGFIELD ARMORY M1 GARAND 7.62x51 NATO Rifle C&R .308 1956 Modified Shorter Configuration M1 w/SLING Here we present a C&R Springfield U.S. M1 Garand “Tanker” Modified Configuration Rifle, manufactured in December of 1956 at Springfield Armory in Springfield, Massachusetts. This rifle was originally a .30-06 caliber semi-automatic rifle and was that standard U.S. service rifle during World War II and the Korean War and also saw service during the Vietnam War. Most were issued to U.S. forces, though some were also provided as foreign aid to American allies. To say that it was and is highly regarded would be an understatement. In the words of General Patton, “In my opinion, the M1 rifle is the greatest battle implement ever devised.” The overall condition is near fine. The action is excellent. The bore is excellent: shiny bright with sharp rifling and tight. The stock is in very good condition. It has a “circle P” mark remaining on the front of the pistol grip. The receiver is an original Springfield Armory. The barrel is by Arlington Ordnance and is chambered for 7.62x51 NATO or .308 Winchester. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic.
