Springfield Model U.S. Rifle M1 Garand Navy Mk 2 Mod 0 in 7.62x51 NATO. This is a right-hand semi-auto U.S. Military rifle in 7.62x51mm NATO (308). It has a 24-inch barrel. A blade front sight with protective sides and an adjustable aperture rear sight. The butt stock is a smooth hardwood pistol grip. The forearm is smooth two-piece hardwood. The barrel is stamped SA 2/44 H&R G 7.62 NATO. A spacer is installed in the magazine to accommodate the shorter 7.62 NATO round. The rifle was manufactured in Aug 1943. MW is 1.3. The Navy modified Garands when the M14 and the 7.62 NATO cartridges were officially adapted as a replacement for the M1 Garand. The Army and Marine Corp were prioritized in the transition, so the Navy modified Garands to accept the new cartridge. No box. 7.62x51mm NATO
