FINE 1899 KRAG CARBINE, #283XXX, MADE 1900

FINE 1899 KRAG CARBINE, #283XXX, MADE 1900. This is a fine example that has the correct Model 1899 dated receiver as well as the  headless cocking piece found only on this model. The stock shows normal handling and is solid as is the correct handguard. There is no cartouche or circle P stampings in the stock, but it has the small initial stamped behind the trigger guard which indicates an arsenal replaced stock- very typical of these carbines that often saw hard use. Fine deep blue on the barrel, correct front sight, rear sight ladder goes up to “20” and is the 1902 style, so was probably added when the arsenal upgraded this one, I do not see the “C” on the left side. Mottled gray receiver with some good blue on the extractor. Sharp markings, exc. action and exc. sharp bore that at worst is slightly dark. An attractive example of the last bolt action carbine made for the U.S. government.
