Springfield Armory Model 1898 Krag Jorgensen Carbine Sporter

Nicely re-worked to a Carbine Sporter. Serial #153426. 30-40 caliber. The barrel measures 22” to the bolt face. There is a dimple at the bottom of the barrel where a wrap-on front sight can apparently be installed. There are currently no iron sights. In 2010, a company called Kreiger was selling new barrels for these rifles, in full length and carbine length, and this barrel may be one of those as the bore is in stunning condition, bright and shiny with well-defined grooving, and the outer surface is just as impressive. Might be an original cut down barrel in terrific shape as well, it is up to the new owner to discern. The stock has been modified to a carbine facsimile with the typical square wood patch at the foretip in the lightening channel. There is a cartouche marking on the left side of the stock above the trigger, but it is worn down and illegible. There is another cartouche marking, a circled P about an inch behind the trigger guard that still has fairly good definition to it. The stock has no cracks and has relatively few handling marks for being a refinished military stock. It has a low-gloss smooth varnish that was very well done. There is no upper forearm wood. All metal except the bolt face sports a new thick glossy black modern bluing with zero handling marks. Metal finish is comparable to a new gun. Besides the barrel, rear bolt, magazine, and receiver frame, this also even includes the buttplate, gunstrap loops, barrel band, trigger, and trigger guard. Everything in the magazine loader has an above average nice finish. No metal pitting present on any outer metal. The bolt face is shiny stainless and only has typical usage scuffs. Open the bolt and everything looks close to new in there too. Bolt operates smooth and tight. A Weaver side mount has been installed. Weaver rings. Included is a Maverick 3x9x32 scope with clear optics. A stunning and unique gun for the money. My only complaint is that often the ejected cartridges will catch the side turret on the scope and then drop back down into the receiver. This is a common problem when putting scopes on these old rifles that were designed to eject high. I had a good gunsmith try modifying the extractor to give it a little more fling, but it didn’t help. I still have the original functioning extractor and it will be included with the firearm. There are of course, some easy fixes to this.  Putting on a scope that doesn’t have a side turret may work. Putting on a left handed scope with the side turret on the left side instead of the right side should work. Or, the easiest total fix is to simply rotate the scope 90 degrees, then use left as down, up as left, etc. This is the way I use it and it works fine. For photography purposes, I have the scope in the normal position. I can provide several additional high-res photos and a short video clip of the firearm in operation to any SERIOUS buyer. Firearm Purchase Certificate, and ID with either, just like it's done at the auuctions/shows. Concealed Carry Permit works as well. If you are from out of state but can make the drive, there is an FFL in Lincoln that will do the transfer for 25 bucks. I will ship to an FFL. If you do not have your own FFL you must contact your FFL provider and ensure that they will accept firearms that come from a private individual like me that does not have an FFL. I can provide them a copy of my ID. I will also need contact info for your receiving FFL so that I can arrange shipping with them. If I'm shipping the firearm, payment for the firearm and shipping combined is by Bank Cashier's Check ONLY. Shipping is to only the lower 48 and is a flat fee of 65 dollars.
