This is an all original U.S. Model 1879 Springfield trapdoor rifle. The 45 Government (45-70) barrel has an excellent bore with bright rifling. It has the correct Model 1879 buckhorn rear sight including the correct headless attaching screws. The underside of the breechblock and the barrel tang have generous amounts of their original case colors. The blued parts have most of their original blue which is fading to plum. The swivels and cleaning rod are present. The stock is very good with no cracks or chips, light issue wear, a strong SWP over 1883 cartouche, and a strong firing proof at the rear of the trigger guard tang. The action functions correctly. The Model 1879 is a must for any Indian Wars collection. Good original Model 1879 examples like this one are much harder to find than the later Model 1884.
