This Springfield Model 1873 is a hinged door breech loading trapdoor single shot rifle in .45-70-405 Cal. It has a 22 inch barrel with a blade front and adjustable notch middle sight. The stock is a smooth walnut straight grip butt and forearm with a barrel band. The left side has a saddle ring. It was the first standard issue breech-loading rifle adopted by the United States Army. It was widely used and in service from 1873 - 1892. DOM 1874.
