Springfield ~ Model 1878 Trapdoor ~ .45-70 Government
Description:
This Trapdoor has an 1873 marked breechblock and an 1878 sideplate but is configured as an 1878 Springfield. The ramrod is a replacement and is shorter than issued. The bore is very good with some light scattered pitting and some light oxidation. Rifling is very strong. Lock plate and hammer show generous case-hardening. The smooth walnut stock rates very good plus with some light dings and abrasions. There is a shallow chip along the ramrod channel. The inspector quite cartouche is faded but visible. The lock seems to function normally. .45-70 Government
