Description:
Springfield Trapdoor Cadet Model 1873 with Bayonet.

Model 1873 rifle with breechblock marked “U.S. Model 1873” with “U.S. Springfield” above “1873” pn chamber adjacent to a “spread eagle” insignia on the sideplate. The stock has a “short comb/thin wrist” configuration and solid buttplate. US Stamped on bolt. 1884 stamped onside of breechblock. Mfg. approximately February 1884 

This rifle with its 29 5/8 inch barrel and only a stacking swivel on the upper barrel band, no forward sling swivel on the Cadet model.  Only 8,588 Model 1873 Cadet Rifles (used at West Point and other military schools) were ever procdued.
