U.S. Model 1873 Carbine in the Custer Range
Description: Serial #42043, .45-70, 22" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some very minor freckling within the grooves. This is a great looking carbine which has an attractive mottled gray/plum-brown patina with some mild freckling scattered throughout. Original model 1873 parts are still present: the high-arch breech-block, narrow receiver, 500 yd carbine rear sight with 1200 yd. ladder, pinned front sight blade, and the original low comb, long wrist stock. The lock is still the original two-click type, and the rear sight, although proper, may be a later replacement since it has visible blue remaining. The stock has a still visible “ESA” cartouche with an intact and unbroken wrist, as well as no compartment under the buttplate. The wood has an old added oil finish applied during the period of use over numerous small handling marks and blemishes. These early, sub-50,000 carbines are rarely found in original configuration, and this example is in very good-fine condition.
