US Model 1873/84 Trapdoor Rifle by Springfield Armory
Description: Serial #231615, .45-70, 32 1/2" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a handsome rifle that has a Model 1873/79 serial number, but Model 1884 breechblock and rear sight. The barrel and metal has retained 90-92% of the original blue on the barrel, receiver, lock, and hammer, with some mild fading present at the muzzle and thin freckling throughout. Further areas of plum-brown freckling are present on the trigger guard as well. The breechblock has bright original color case-hardening, especially on the underside, with brown freckling about the top surfaces. The Buffington rear sight is intact, but the bottom edge of the slider is slightly bent. The walnut stock is in fine condition with minor handling marks and surface blemishes scattered about the otherwise fine military oil finish, and a crisp "SWP/1889" cartouche is present on the left side of the wrist. This is a very nice Trapdoor that rates fine-near excellent overall. Antique SOLD |
