VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND SPRINGFIELD FIRST MODEL 1873 .45-70 TRAPDOOR RIFLE, #24XXX, MADE 1874.
Description: VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND SPRINGFIELD FIRST MODEL 1873 .45-70 TRAPDOOR RIFLE, #24XXX, MADE 1874. This example still retains the long wrist/short comb stock that was used only on the first few years of production. The stock also shows a good "ESA" cartouche indicating that this was the original stock and not a replacement as those lack an inspection cartouche. Correct 1873 dated "high arch" breech block, correct early 1873 dated lock plate and correct two click tumbler. The only parts that appear to be correct arsenal updates are the hammer and the rear sight which is the 1879 type that still has the slotless screws. Stock is fine with one age crack on the left side by the receiver that goes nowhere. There are two initials scratched in the bottom of the stock behind the lower tang. Correct cleaning rod and swivels. The wood has not been sanded and the barrel retains fine aged blue with some brown mixing. Mostly brown breech block and lock. Fine action and bright excellent bore. Early rifles like this rarely retain the original long wrist ESA cartouched stocks. stocks. The rear sight and hammer wold be easy to replace with first model parts if one wanted. Seldom seen like this. SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: SPRINGFIELD Model: 1873 1ST MOD. RIFLE Serial Number: 24XXX Condition: VG Bore Condition: EXCELLENT |
