Springfield 1903 Niedner Custom .22 LR caliber rifle. Rare A.O. Niedner (Malden, Mass) custom rifle manufactured prior to 1920 due to Mr. Niedner moved shop to Dowagiac, Michigan in 1920. A.O. Niedner died Dec 26, 1954. This is a single shot .22 LR, manufactured on a U.S. Springfield model 1903 action with a Lyman 48C receiver sight. Bolt has Niedner’s bolt head and bolt track device, both marked “A.O. Niedner Malden Mass”. Barrel length 25”. Bore is mirror bright with perfect rifling. The stock has a Schnauble forend. Stock checkering is crisp and excellent. In his excellent book, Custom Gunmakers of the 20th Century, the late Michael Petron details the renowned early gunsmiths of the 20th century. A nine-page copy of the chapter on Niedner comes with this fine rifle. No abuse, chips or pits on rifle. It has been well cared for by its previous owners.
