Springfield Armory ~ Model 1903 ~ .30 Cal
Description: This 1918 bolt action rifle is a Springfield Armory Model 1903 chambered in .30 Caliber. It has a fixed dovetailed serrated ramp front sight, an adjustable "ladder" rear sight, a steel butt plate with a trap door, and sling loops top, middle and bottom. The top of the receiver is marked "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD / ARMORY / MODEL 1903 / 939219". The top of the barrel is marked "S A / flaming bomb / 9 – 42". The safety is marked "SAFE READY" and the magazine cutoff is marked "ON OFF". The barrel band is marked "U". The bayonet lug is marked "H". The bottom of the bolt handle is marked "R" and with two punch marks. The action functions correctly. The Model 1903 Springfield is an American five-round magazine-fed, bolt-action service repeating rifle, used primarily during the first half of the 20th century. The 1903 was first used in combat during the Philippine–American War, and it was officially adopted by the United States as the standard infantry rifle on June 19, 1903, where it saw service in World War I, and was replaced by the faster-firing semi-automatic eight-round M1 Garand starting in 1936. However, the 1903 remained in service as a standard issue infantry rifle during World War II, since the U.S. entered the war without sufficient M1 rifles to arm all troops. It also remained in service as a sniper rifle during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. It remains popular as a civilian firearm, historical collector's piece, a competitive shooting rifle, and as a military drill rifle. According to the serial number it appears that this US Springfield Armory 1903 was Made in 1918. .30-06 Springfield SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Metal Condition: The metal is in very good condition Wood Condition: "Wood stock is in very good condition, shows very minimal marks and dings, and is not cracked or chipped Barrels: "24 inch barrel, stamped with SA, flaming bomb, 9-42 Triggers: Smooth curved trigger Stock Dimensions: "13 inch LOP, overall length 43½ inches Butt Pad: Steel butt plate with door Weight: 8 lbs 9 oz Sights: "Fixed dovetailed serrated ramp front sight, adjustable ""ladder"" rear sight Item Location: Wichita, KS |
