Description: UNISSUED CONDITION 1884 TRAPDOOR SPRINGFIELD, .45-70 RIFLE, #356XXX WITH SHARP 1886 CARTOUCHE. This is one of the best of these I’ve seen in a while. The stock shows only the very lightest of storage marks with crisp circle P cartouche and SWP 1886 wrist cartouche. Excellent only lightly faded case colors on the 1873 dated breech block. Exc. black case color on the lock plate and hammer. About all the blue on the barrel, trigger guard etc. with only the most minor or wear. Correct Buffington rear sight and correct cleaning rod. Very tight action and bright minty bore. Some dulling and edge wear to the butt plate. I suppose it is possible that some parts might be arsenal re-furbished, but usually stocks would be replaced without a cartouche etc. The 1873 dated breech block may simply have been an older one that was utilized by Springfield as they didn’t throw away parts. Mainly, everything on this rifle is consistent with regard to condition and bore condition. About as nice as one could hope to find.
