Antique SPRINGFIELD Model 1795 Percussion MUSKET
Description: Antique SPRINGFIELD Model 1795 Percussion MUSKET With Lock Dated 1808 Here we present an antique U.S. Springfield Model 1795 Percussion Musket, manufactured in 1808 at the Springfield Armory. This was the first standardized musket made specifically for the US, by an American armory, and the first by Springfield Armory. It was heavily influenced by the French Charleville, a very good musket that the colonists used against the British during the American Revolutionary War. At this time, the Americans maintained a stock of the weapons, making them easily duplicated. Production lasted until about 1814 and the Model 1795 saw action in the War of 1812 (1812-15) along with many conflicts with Native Americans. The latest recorded use of the 1795 was as late as 1865 by the southern Confederate forces, some converted to percussion. This is 1795 Type II Musket received a bolster type of percussion conversion in the 1850s or early 1860s for further service. It was very likely used in the American Civil War. The back of the lock is dated “1808” and the front of the lock is marked “US/FEDERAL EAGLE/SPRINGFIELD”. The top of the butt plate is dated to match “1808”. The rear right side of the butt stock bears another scripted “US” marking like the one on the lock. The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces are semi-bright with some weathering. The markings are clear. The walnut stock shows handling as you would expect of a war implement. The bore is smooth and dark. The action is functional and has no half-cock notch. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 44 inches. Caliber: .69 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1600 #6439 SOLD Antique: Yes |
