Early New Jersey Marked US Model 1873 Trapdoor Rifle by Springfield Armory
Description: Serial #30888, .45-70 Gov’t., 32 1/2" barrel with a very good bore that has some mild freckling and pitting within the grooves. This Trapdoor has about 50-60% of the original blue remaining on the barrel and lock, mixing with a mellow plum-brown patina and a few scattered spots of mild surface oxidation along the barrel. The low-arch breechblock has a dark patina with faintly visible mottling, and a later, Model 1884 Buffington rear sight is installed. The walnut stock has been sanded and shows handling marks and surface blemishes scattered about the oil finish. The inspector cartouche and "P" firing proof are visible, but illegible. There is a small chip repair in the wood at the rear end of the trigger guard tang. This is a great looking NJ marked Trapdoor, and is in very good condition overall. Antique; SOLD Antique: Yes |
