Description: RARE Antique U.S. SPRINGFIELD M1870 NAVY Rolling Block Rifle ANCHOR MARKED Marked “USN/SPRINGFIELD/1870” Here we present an antique U.S. Navy Springfield Model 1870 Rolling Block Rifle, manufactured at the Springfield Armory circa 1870. This rifle employs the Remington Arms Company rolling block design and was manufactured under a royalty agreement with Remington, for use by the United States Navy as a shipboard small arm. Only 22,013 were produced, with the first shipment of 10,000 rejected by the Navy. This rifle would have been on ships like the Colorado, Alaska, Palos, Monocacy, and Benicia when they sailed for the United States Expedition to Korea in 1871. The overall condition is good. Dark patina throughout. Anchor marking is clear on the top of the barrel. The action is strong. The bore is bright with thin rifling. The bayonet lug is ground down. Rear sight replaced. Restocked. Stock is solid but not completely flushed to frame. The lock is marked “EAGLE / USN / SPRINGFIELD / 1870”. Here is a nice example of the scarce 1870 Navy Rolling Block Rifle from Springfield!
