Description: Up for sale is a genuine U.S. Model 1861 “Special Contract” rifle-musket, manufactured by Lamson, Goodnow & Yale (L.G.&Y.) of Windsor, Vermont under federal contract during the American Civil War. This particular musket is dated 1862 on the lockplate and features the desirable Windsor, VT stamping—marking it as one of the ~50,000 rifles produced by L.G.&Y. for Union forces.
Historical Background: The “Special Model 1861” was manufactured by several contractors to supplement Springfield Armory production.
