RARE US SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1855 TYPE 3 LATE 1859 MAYNARD PRIMER CIVIL WAR MUSKET.... LAYAWAY?

Description:
The Type 3 was produced in late 1859 and featured the original Maynard tape priming system with eagle stamp but was made without the patch box. This system proved unreliable in field use and was abandoned prior to the Civil War and was never used on either the Model 1861 or Model 1863. This is a very rare one year only example as only 2,200 were produced from August through November of 1859. The lock is stamped US SPRINGFEILD and dated 1859 as is the breech of barrel. Left side of barrel has the VP eagle head stamp. Standard walnut full length stock, three band, military two leaf folding rear sight, scarce brass forearm tip, metal rod, two swivels, and US stamped butt plate. CONDITION:VG+ OVERALL. This rifle is extremely clean. Stock is in fine condition with no cracks or mentionable impressions. All metal is a soft gun metal oxidized grey with age freckling. The stock is fine and solid showing nominal dings and impressions. The upper wrist of stock has small 7 brad star design. Mechanically sound. Bore is bold and fairly clean with light frostyresidue. The last two inches of the barrel shows light visible rifling. No visible caetouche. Since these were made a couple of years before the Civil War, mant did not get inspected prior to the war.
