Springfield Allin Conversion Rifle U.S. Model 1866 2nd Model
Description: NSN, .50 CF, 36 5/8” barrel with an excellent, bright bore that has just a very small amount of freckling within the grooves at the muzzle. This is a handsome gun that retains 90% plus of the original blue finish on the breechblock assembly and the rear sight, while the 1865 dated lockplate has fairly bright color case-hardening remaining. The blued and cased surfaces have a coating of protective varnish or lacquer. The barrel and bands have an overall bright patina with specks of darker freckling here and there along its length. The walnut stock has been sanded and refinished with a modern, somewhat glossy varnish, but the original Springfield cartouches are still fairly clear on the left side. There are various handling marks and bruises scattered throughout, but the most noticeable are a series of minor impact marks on the left side and along the belly of the butt. Additionally, there is some surface crazing and flaking of the varnish on the left side opposite the lock, and on the buttstock as well. The rifle comes with a correct period ramrod, and is mechanically excellent. This is an about very good-very good plus 1866 Trapdoor overall.
