The Springfield Model 1873 \"Trapdoor\" chambered in .45-70 was the U.S. Army‚s first standard-issue, breech-loading rifle. Designed by Erskine S. Allin, it gets its name from the hinged breechblock that flips open like a trapdoor. Widely used during the Indian Wars and Spanish-American War, it remains a heavily collected piece of American military history. Bore is dark with minimal rifling.
