Springfield Armory Model 1861 Civil War Musket - original -
Description:
If your long lost relative fought in the Civil War this may have been his firearm. Both sides used Springfields, with Confederate soldiers bearing weapons captured from Northern Troops as well as guns purchased directly just prior and at the start of the conflict. An original US Civil War issued Springfield Model 1861 Pattern Musket with an 1863 dated lock, original cleaning rod, etc. Musket has an excellent condition stock with visible cartouches (see photo). Metal is what I call "barn find brown" and there is some pitting especially on top of the barrel towards the breech. Still a nice example from "the war of northern aggression", and a wonderful artifact that is 157 years old.
