Springfield Armory Model 1899 Krag Jorgensen Carbine
Description:
Partial Custom Sporter. Serial # 228254 falls within documented carbine range. 30-40 caliber. I bought it several years ago at a local auuction, I am not the one who has done any of the custom work on it. The original rear sight is removed and a peep sight of unknown origin is installed. The barrel measures 22” to the bolt face. The stock is an original style Krag and has been sanded so there are no markings, and it has had other modifications. An interesting feature of this carbine is that it has a turned down muzzle end for bayonet attachment. There is a square wood patch placed as a filler in the lightening channel under the barrel at the end of the foretip. The top fore end hand guard is no longer present. For some reason there is a small filled hole in the top of the stock an inch ahead of the buttplate. A factory modern bluing was applied to this rifle at some point. It is a rich deep shiny black. It was applied to the barrel, receiver, back of the bolt, barrel band, magazine, gunstrap holders and trigger guard. It is flawless except for a few very small scratches on the magazine face. Internal magazine is decent original bluing, the chamber looks practically new. The trigger is a shiny steel. The bolt face has scuffs but is otherwise nice bright steel. The stock has a stunning tiger stripe pattern to it, a rich stain, and a perfect satin varnish. There are only a few pinhead size handling marks and that’s it. There is a short tight crack in the fore-tip next to the lightening channel plug. The gun underwent an expensive reconditioning, my only complaint is that the replacement butt pad had to be shaved a lot to match the stock contour, and was shaved deep enough to reach the metal spacers in the pad. It’s functional but unsightly. The bore shines almost bright as new and the grooving is terrific. In 2010, a company called Kreiger was selling new barrels for these rifles, in full length and carbine length, and this barrel may be one of those. The bolt works smooth and tight, and everything functions flawlessly. I can provide several additional photos and a video clip of this firearm in operation to a SERIOUS buyer. Terms are per this Description section and our correspondence. Cash only if a Local sale. For local sale I only sell to anyone who is verified to purchase a firearm so I would need to see either a FFL, or NE Firearm Purchase Certificate, and ID with either, just like it's done at the auuctions/shows. Concealed Carry Permit works as well. I will ship to an FFL. If you do not have your own FFL you must contact your FFL provider and ensure that they will accept firearms that come from a private individual like me that does not have an FFL. I can provide them a copy of my ID. I will also need contact info for your receiving FFL so that I can arrange shipping with them. If I'm shipping the firearm, payment for the firearm and shipping combined is by Bank Cashier's Check ONLY. Shipping is to only the lower 48 and is a flat fee of 65 dollars.
