.45-70 (.45-55). 29.5" barrel. SN: 407596 (mfg. ca. 1888). Blued and color casehardened finish, steel mountings, full-length military walnut stock. Single shot breechloading "trapdoor" action cadet rifle with M1884 Buffington rear sight, Barelycorn front sight, two-piece triggerguard, 3-click tumbler, grooved trigger with checkered tip, stacking swivel on upper band, made without sling swivels as is correct. Standard lock and breechblock markings, top of receiver stamped MASS, indicating ownership by the state of Massachusetts. Left wrist with clear script SWP/1888 cartouche. Includes a correct pattern slotted head cleaning rod.
CONDITION:
Very good +. Boreis fine, partly bright with scattered oxidation, some lnice rifling. Barrel with some thinning blue, mixing with an oxidized plum brown patina, receiver with some muted mottled case colors remaining. Markings clear and legible. Mechanically NICE action. Stock with lightly scattered bumps, dings.
