"U.S. Springfield M1 Garand Converted to .308 (L2026-06393)
Description:
"Serial no. 3400118. Manufactured circa July 1944 by Springfield Armory, later converted to .308 Winchester / 7.62 NATO,24"" round barrel marked “SA 11010457 6-65 BU18 P M/7.62NM H&R P 7.62 NATO." The bore is bright and shiny with strong, well-defined rifling noted throughout. The rifle has been refinished and fitted with a new stock, remaining in overall excellent condition. During the Cold War era, many M1 Garands were converted to 7.62 NATO for continued military use and competitive shooting purposes after the adoption of the M14 rifle. National Match-style .308 conversions became especially popular among target shooters due to the reduced recoil and widespread availability of 7.62 NATO ammunition. The action is smooth, mechanically sound, and functions correctly.
