Post-WWII Springfield M1 Garand with Anniston Armory Shipping Box and Packing Slip and M5A1 Bayonet with Scabbard
Description: This M1 Garand and was one of the last M1's to be produced by the Springfield Armory. The rifle's serial number, 6088936, indicates that it was made in 1957, which was the year Springfield produced its last M1 Garand with serial number 6099905. That makes the M1 featured here only 10,969 from being the last one produced! By 1957, a total of 5,468,772 Garands had been manufactured with Springfield making 4,188,669 of them. In 1957, the M14 rifle was adopted, replacing the M1 Garand as the US military's primary service rifle. This M1 was shipped from the Anniston Armory Depot in Alabama to a buyer in 1993. The shipping box and packing slip are included with this rifle. Note the last picture is a collage of photos showing the packing slip and a label from the box both with the rifle's serial number, 6088936, a registered mail sticker from the box that matches the number on the slip, a close up of the slip with the Anniston Army Depot address, and a picture of the postage dated "Nov 30 '93". The original buyer's (consignee's) name and address are on the packing slip but has been covered in the picture for the purpose of this ad. The rifle is in beautiful condition. It appears to be all original. The metal is clean without dings, scratches, or rust. The bore is shinny and clean with no rust or pitting. The receiver is stamped "U.S. RIFLE / CAL. .30 M1 / SPRINGFIELD ARMORY / 6088936". The nicely finished wood is in excellent condition with a few minor dents and scratches. There is a clear cartouche of the Defense Acceptance Stamp of a spread eagle under three stars on the left side of the stock and a "P" firing proof stamped on the underside of the stock. The butt stock contains an original M1 combination tool, oiler, grease pot, and pull-through cleaning kit. The sling is an original M1 post-WWII canvas sling, which is correct for this rifle. The bayonet is an original U.S. M5A1 made by Milpar and the scabbard is an original U.S. M8A1 made by PWH (Philadelphia Working Home for the Blind). The bayonet has not been sharpened, is rust free and in excellent condition, as is the scabbard. These are post-WWII and are correct for this rifle. This rifle appears to be in good working condition. However, it is a 70-year old firearm and the buyer is advised to have it inspected by a qualified gunsmith before firing it. Also, it is important to use ammunition that meets the correct specifications for an M1 Garand. Firing improper ammunition can damage the firearm and could injure the shooter and bystanders. The seller cannot be responsible for any damage or injury caused by the firing or misuse of this firearm. This is a heavy rifle and special packaging will be required to protect the original box and contents. Add $100 for insured shipping to your FFL holder within the continental United States or $110 to Alaska. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
