WW2 Springfield Armory M1 Garand 1944

World War Two Springfield Armory M1 Garand, serial number 25085xx, manufactured January 1944.We believe the finish on this M1 is original, and we believe most marked parts are correct for this serial number. Springfield barrel dated January 1944 has a bright bore. The stock is marked “GAW” with crossed cannons, and looks very nice with the expected amount of dings for a WW2 gun. All parts are detailed below and shown in photos. No import marks.
We test fired this M1 at 100 yards and the rifle performed great, cycling through a full eight round clip, ejecting the clip at the end. You can see a video of our test firing on our YouTube channel, Fernwood Armory TV.
Sling, two M1 enbloc clips (no ammo) and canvas bandolier are included.
SA M1 sn 25085xx Specs:
- Receiver: marked “D 28291 32” on leg, heat lot 052A<>. Excellent condition, no pitting. We believe the finish is original, with expected wear at corners.
- Barrel: marked “1 S A 1 44” in op rod slot, “D35448-28-Y-56” on top, with “M” and small stars and eagle with misc other marks. Bore is bright, good rifling. Chamber is in the white. Crown appears original, somewhat dented on the outside but the inner rim that affect accuracy is intact. External finish in good condition with no pitting.
- Barrel Gauge Measurements: MW (Muzzle Wear): 1 ½, TE(throat erosion): 3 1/2
- Lower band: two-piece flat top with solid pin
- Clip latch: late square front type, unmarked
- Op rod: curved side, marked “D35382 3 SA”, modified. Op rod and bolt cycle freely by tilting when everything is assembled except main spring and hammer (Garands with binding or rubbing op rods tend to have feeding and/or ejecting problems).
- Op rod catch: late type, unmarked
- Bullet guide: milled WWII type
- Follower: late type, marked “12”
- Follower arm: no bevel
- Follower rod: long fork, riveted
- Bolt: marked “D28287-12SA W10B <>”
- Rear sight base: late SA type, unmarked
- Sight knobs: WWII lockbar. Knobs VG condition. Half of the pinion tip is missing, probably from disassembly. Not cross-threaded, works normally.
- Rear sight cover: late type with ribs
- Rear sight aperture: double track, unmarked
- Trigger housing: marked “D2829012-SA” Exc condition, no pitting, small pad, cloverleaf hole
- Trigger guard: milled WWII type, marked “O” inside
- Trigger: late type, no extra hole
- Hammer: marked “C46008-3 SA”
- Hammer spring plunger: early type with wings
- Safety: round top, unmarked
- Gas cylinder: wide sight platform, flat on top of rear ring, small depression by stacking swivel screw, finish in VG condition.
- Front sight: 0.64 wide, unmarked.
- Gas cylinder lock: beveled front type, unmarkled, finish mostly worn off
- Gas cylinder screw: cross slot poppet valve type, marked “P” and “O”
- Stock: walnut, marked “S.A. G.A.W.” in box with crossed cannons, circled “P” on pistol grip, painted “13” on top of comb. No cracks, about average dings/scratches, nice appearance.
- Handguards: walnut, no cracks, same condition and appearance as stock. Rear HG has painted “373”.
- Buttplate: square plunger type, good condition with worn finish.
- Sling: used, commontype.
