Springfield 1922 M2 with USGI straight stock
Description:
For your consideration is a Springfield 1922 M2 in a USGI straight stock. The rifle was built as an M2 and has the appropriate bolt, although the serial number etched into the bolt is not correct to the rifle. Barrel date of June 1937. Metal in great shape. No rust or pitting that I can find. The barrel, though, has vice or wrench marks on it (photographed twice). The bore is bright with strong lands and grooves with no pitting or dark spots.
The stock, although not correct to the 1922 M2 rifles, is a beautiful USGI 1903 straight stock. There are faint cartouche marks on the left side that look like AA and REB. I tried to photograph the stock in 3 different kinds of light to showcase how pretty the sunburst is on the stock.
As you know, the 1922 rifles are deminsionally the same as the 1903 rifles, so very little work was done to the stock to accommodate the 1922 action. The front band is for a 1903 (stamped "u") and the stock was thinned at the nose to accommodate this band. I tried to photograph the stock closely so you could see the fit and finish. It was well done and the action fits nice and snug.
The rifle comes with an M2 magazine.
Will ship in a Plano hardcase with outer cardboard sleeve. This is the same case the CMP uses to ship their rifles...not your wimpy flimsy plastic case!
