This early 30 U.S. caliber (30-40 Krag) Model 1898 Krag has been shortened for hunting use. The barrel has been shortened to 25"" (originally 30"") and a Model 1903 front sight has been added. The front band appears to be a cut down Krag band specially fitted to the current location. The bore is fine with bright, strong rifling. The rear sight is a Model 1901. The barrel has approx. 90% blue and the receiver and other parts are gray or brown. The shortened stock is very good showing light usage. There are no markings present. The original handguard is fine with only a minor age crack at the front. The front and rear sling swivels are from a U.S. Model 1917 rifle. The trigger guard bow has been slimmed. The action functions correctly.
