This U.S. Model 1898 30 U.S. caliber (30-40 Krag) Krag rifle was made by the Springfield Armory in 1899. It comes with a correct 1899 dated bayonet. The 30"" barrel has a fine bore with strong, bright rifling and light frosting in the grooves. It is equipped with the Model 1901 rear sight which was used by the regular Army. The barrel has approx. 92% blue. The rcase hardening on the receiver is rurned mostly bright. The sideplate has approx. 60% light blue and the magazine has approx. 90% lightly mottled blue. The correct early type (without the tightening slot) front band has 95% blue and the rear band is a mix of blue and brown. The triggerguard and buttplate are mostly brown. The bolt is bright. The stock is fine with no cracks or chips, JSA 1899 cartouche and firing proof, and light overall wear. The swivels are present. The action functions correctly. The 1899 dated bayonet is fine with a bright blade and the original flush rivets. The crossguard and pommel are mostly brown. The right grip scale is stamped 47.N.Y. over A 59. The early style stabbard has approx. 80% blue turning to brown. There is a small dent on one scabbard edge about 5"" up from the tip.
