Description: 1942 M1 Garand With 1959 Type 1 NM Upgrades by the Springfield Armory Company Government issued M1 Garand. Tuned to Type 1 National Match specifications using 100% government produced parts. (including all three intermediate) upgrades. To 1959 NM Spec’s. This is a very accurate shooter. All original other than NM upgrades. Stock is in excellent condition. Cartouches are correct. It is in very good condition throughout. All parts are very well fitted and tight. The stock is clearly marked with 1942 produced cartouches. An internet serial number “look-up”. Confirms March 1942. Over 10 million were produced. From 1937 to 1965. But survivors in this condition from WW2 are kind of scarce. According to knowledgeable sources that I contacted. The National Match upgrades were most likely personally made by Robert (Bob) Reese, of Geneseo, IL. There is documentation supporting this in electric pencil markings. On the barrel, (hidden by the stock) "Reese Gun Co Colona ILL". These NM upgrades were specifically selected, inspected and almost certainly installed, to match accuracy, prior to 1974. By Robert Reese. Due to his signature. Again, small and totally hidden. Mr. Reese (now deceased) founded the "Springfield Armory" company located in Geneseo, Illinois. The Springfield Armory Co is still a major player in the firearms business. Producing accurate copies of M14 rifles, among other product lines. I can attest to this because I have fired my M1A NM 1000’s of times. And it is as accurate as new. Fired the M1 Garand? Maybe 300 times in 47 yrs? In a recent limited shooting, to confirm reliability and safety. 8 rounds were fired to tune the sites. And 8 rounds to confirm accuracy. Results: Groupings of 2 inches at 100 yards. (In the prone position). And I am a good shot. But not an expert. This rifle was originally manufactured to be used to defend this country. And it was improved with the traditional Type 1 NM upgrades. By a very experienced gunsmith using government produced NM upgrades. That was in the beginning stages of building a very successful business. If you want a M1 Garand “showpiece” as well as a shooter. This is it. The Type 1 NM upgrades do not affect 42 construction in anyway. It can be easily converted back to as an issued 42. Applies to all listings: The entire collection was professionally removed from wood and inspected for condition. Then cleaned, lubricated and reassembled. By a very experienced Gunsmith. All received a clean bill of health from a condition stand point. Better than appropriate, for the age. They have only been lightly cleaned and oiled by me. Before and since. The entire collection has never out of a temperature-humidity, controlled environment. Since the purchased date. Most post 1920 guns have been fired by a qualified gunsmith or range master. For reliability, functionality and safety confirmation. I have fired a few. All <200 rounds. All firearms that are equipped for them have as-issued correct Bayonet and Scabbards, in very good condition. Most have (sure looks like) as issued: Slings, clips and / or removable magazines. And some higher Mag loads, are available. All have the expected stampings and / or cartouches. Except where noted in the individual listings. There are no reproduction replacement parts in this collection! Some Government Arsenal Reconditions are included. And there are clear markings of this reconditioning. Again, per individual listing. All firearms are offered as collector’s items only. Seller does not accept responsibility as to the shooting safety or reliability of any firearm. A thorough inspection. should be conducted by an experienced, reliable gunsmith / rangemaster Before even considering firing any gun. Specific descriptions related to a Firearm.
