Krag Jorgensen Carbine – Model 1898
Purchased directly from the owner in 1969. It had been in a residential location for years. Since then, it has always been stored / displayed in a temperature / humidity-controlled environment. Age appropriate moderate patina on the bright metal. There is moderate oil residue build-up in the creases and tight areas. That doesn’t bother me, because I am oriented towards maintaining originality. The new owner may think differently? The barrel is bright and shiny, throughout. With minor wear. The barrel retains much of the bluing (+90%). This sometimes suggests an arsenal refinish? But it does not have the black oil quenched case color refinish / rebuilt look? And, the markings on the left side of the receiver are crisp and clear. Not muddled, like an arsenal refinished example. The fit and finish is very good. And the bolt action is tight and very smooth. The stock is very good condition. Some blemishes and scratches. No paint. No “gashes”. The bluing is +90%. The butt plate shows some very minor rust. But nowhere else.
The serial number correctly falls into the carbine range (222609-362256). Cartouche is clearly dated 1898. So, probably a very early model 1899? A circled stylized script "P" is stamped behind the trigger guard. The left side receiver markings are crisp and not blurred. The stock meets every description that I can find, for an “as-issued” Carbine. The blade front sight is mounted on the correct high stud. The rear sight ladder is graduated from 02 to 20. A “c’ is stamped on the right side.
There are a lot of Krag enthusiast in the Community. Corrections and comments are welcome. It is important to get this description, as accurate and complete as possible.
Applies to all listings:
In 2002, the entire collection was professionally removed from wood, inspected for issues and carefully cleaned, conditioned and reassembled. By a very experienced and professional Gunsmith. In 2002. There was no rot and except noted in the listing. There was no rust on the hidden metal.
They have only been lightly cleaned and oiled by me. Before and since. The entire collection has never out of a temperature-humidity, controlled environment. Since the purchased date. Except for the Belgium FN. Only a select few were fired (by a gunsmith. And only for reliability, functionality and safety confirmation. None fired before 1917.
All firearms are offered as collector’s items only. I do not accept responsibility as to the shooting safety or reliability of any firearm. That I have listed, or have ever offered for sale.
A close thorough inspection. Should be conducted by an experienced, reliable and very well know gunsmith (with references). Before even considering firing any gun in this collection.
Specific descriptions related to a Firearm. Are based on knowledge, at the time of the listing. No part of any Firearm is intentionally misrepresented. And they are described as accurately and to the best of my ability, as possible. Please make your own determinations.
I can put you in touch with a 3rd party, totally independent gunsmith. That is available for consultation / condition confirmation. At the buyer’s expense. Or, if you have a contact in the Tampa Bay area? I’ll take it to them. I am available to take phone inquiries. Between 9AM & 6 PM.
Most days. All sales are final.
All firearms that are equipped for them? Have as-issued, correct Bayonet and Scabbards, in very good condition. Most have (sure looks like) as issued: Slings, clips and / or removable magazines. And some higher Mag loads, are available. Some are stamped by the manufacturer. And some are dated. There no reproduction or replacement parts are in this collection! Except where noted in the listing. Some Government Arsenal Reconditions are included. And there are clear markings of this reconditioning. Again, this is noted in this listing?

Such as clips, magazines, bayonets or any item listed or sold with the firearm: Is the responsibility of the purchaser to meet, and/or abide by. All firearms are mechanically sound and complete, unless noted. To be clear: I am NOT warranting them as safe to fire
The Buyer must have a valid Driver’s License. And complete the Florida Individual Person: Firearm & Ammunition Transfer Disclosure Document. Not sure if it is needed? For every sale? But it only takes about 5 minutes to complete. I will only ship to an FFL License Holder? For any and all transactions. And the FFL Holder needs to contact me. And provide a copy of the license. Prior to shipping.
All taxes, fees, insurance, customs and / or any other non-firearm specific regulations, related to the listing. Is the responsibility of the buyer or buyer’s representative, to meet.
