Description: S O L D ,......................U.S. Springfield Model 1864 Rifle MusketAmerican Civil War... LAYAWAY? .58 caliber. 40" barrel secured by three rounded spring retained bands. NSN. Bright finish, iron furniture, walnut stock. Single shot muzzleloading percussion ignition rifle musket. Lock marked U.S./SPRINGFIELD under the bolster and with a {Spread-Winged Eagle}, dated 1864 at tail. {Spread-Winged Eagle} on flat faced bolster as well. No barrel date legible, V/P/{Eagle Head} on left angled breech flat. No discernible cartouches on counterpane. Retains the original rear sight base and combination musket front sight and socket bayonet lug. Rear sight leaf, sling swivels and ramrod are modern reproduction parts. Includes an incorrect pattern reproduction leather sling. CONDITION: Good overall. Bore is good dark and lightly pitted with strongly discernible rifling. Metal cleaned in the past and now lightly oxidized with a hazy thin yellowish brown patina that appears to be a combination of dried discolored oil and age. Metal with some scatteredminor pitting. Lock moderately oxidized, markings clear and mechanically functional. Wood sanded with scattered light marks Remnands of a cartouche......
