.45-70 GOVT Antique SPRINGFIELD ARMORY 1879 Loading TRAPDOOR SPORTING Rifle
With Some Interesting Modifications
Description: .45-70 GOVT Antique SPRINGFIELD ARMORY 1879 Loading TRAPDOOR SPORTING Rifle With Some Interesting Modifications Here we present an antique U.S. Springfield Model 1879 Trapdoor Rifle, made at the Springfield Armory in Springfield, Massachusetts, circa 1880. This rifle has had the barrel shortened (front sight replaced), as well as the stock at both ends. The butt stock has been reduced so that the length of pull is now only 11 inches. The right side of the stock has a little tack decoration and the toe of the stock has been drilled to accommodate the leather thong with a claw affixed to the end. The front of the receiver has some little remnant of what looks like another type of decoration. Finally, a sling ring bar and pistol grip have been added. Someone really turned this old US military rifle into their own, and it looks like they used it plenty! The overall condition is good. Excellent action. Nice bore with strong rifling. There is a thin, stable crack under and around the sling ring bar; other than that, the walnut stock is solid. “1873” dated trapdoor and lock. Neat brass tack inlays on the right buttstock. This example has a unique steel pistol grip that is sometimes seen on surplus trapdoors. A unique adaptation of the venerable trapdoor Springfield! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 26-1/4 inches. Caliber: .45-70 Government Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1235 #210445 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Antique: Yes |
