"Serial No. 154603, made in 1881, .45-70, 32.5"" round proofed barrel. Barrel is a mottled brown patina with 1879 Buckhorn rear sight. Breech is correctly marked ""U.S./MODEL/1873"" Lock plate is marked with""EAGLE-U.S./Springfield. Stock is good with light handling and usage marks visible. Right side of Butt stock is marked ""12/467"" forward of the ""US"" marked butt plate are the markings ""G/12"". This rifle falls into the serial number range of the Model 1880 with 1001 being manufactured. What is unique is the ""Field"" modification that was done to remove the projecting rears on the side, the dovetail has been filled in making it easier to advance the bayonet!
