"U.S. Springfield Model 1863 Type I Rifled Musket .58 Caliber (64858)
Description:
"NSN. Manufactured in 1863 by Springfield Armory, chambered in .58 caliber,40"" round rifled barrel. The barrel and metal components have aged to a smooth grey patina with factory markings on the barrel and lock plate remaining sharp and clearly legible. The stock is in very good condition, showing only light handling impressions. The Model 1863 Type I represents a transitional Civil War pattern, retaining many features of the earlier Model 1861 while incorporating minor wartime improvements. The action holds at both half and full cock with a strong mainspring, remaining mechanically sound. The musket is accompanied by a “U.S./S/30" marked socket bayonet.
