U.S. Springfield Model 1884 Ramrod Bayonet Trapdoor .45-70 caliber rifle. This assembled rifle features a correct ramrod-bayonet, the correct first type Buffington rack and pinion rear sight. The correct heavy front sight cover with an integral front sight, and the correct bayonet latching mechanism. The serial number is 350,391 (305,000 to 316,000 is the recognized range) and the stock cartouche is “SWP 1887". The rear sight is circa 1885 as it is an early one without the “R". All other markings are standard to this era trapdoor rifle. All the metal has an even brown patina. The stock is good with issue dents and dings and a small chip at the rear of the lock. The ramrod channel is wide like that found on the Model 1888. It is equipped with a new made sling. The .45-70 caliber barrel is good with light pitting in the grooves. The action functions correctly. If you collect trapdoors, this rifle will fill that hole in your collection at an affordable price.
