"U.S. Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle .45-70 (50585)
Description:
"Serial no. 437801. Manufactured in 1889 by Springfield Armory, chambered in .45-70 Government,32 ½"" round barrel. The bore is dark with faint rifling still visible. The metal surfaces have aged to an even plum patina while factory markings remain sharp and clearly legible. The Model 1884 represents the final standard evolution of the U.S. trapdoor service rifle, widely issued during the late Indian Wars period and remaining in limited service into the 1890s. The stock has been varnished at some point and shows handling impressions consistent with age. The action functions correctly.
