45-70 GOVT Antique SPRINGFIELD 1884 TRAPDOOR Rifle
Description: 45-70 GOVT Antique SPRINGFIELD 1884 TRAPDOOR Rifle Indian Wars-era Large Bore Long Range Infantry Rifle Here we present an antique U.S. Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle, made circa 1885 by Springfield Armory. Despite access to repeating rifle technology, the post-Civil War Army chose to continue to build new single shot rifles for their infantry. Even after the adoption of the ill-fated Model 1882 Chaffee-Reese Bolt Action Magazine Rifle, new models of trapdoor rifles continued to be produced and used all the way through the mid-1890s, until finally, the Krag-Jorgensen was adopted. The U.S. continued to see unrest and conflict with the displaced Native Americans during this time, including the Wounded Knee Massacre on December 29th, 1890. Trapdoors continued to see use all the way through the Spanish American War. These were chambered for the powerful .45-70 Govt cartridge and they were full-length rifles equipped with ambitiously long-range sights. The overall condition is very good. The metal surfaces bear 80% of the original blue finish. The markings are clear and legible. The stock is in good condition. The rifle was dropped on the heel of the butt plate at some point and there is an impact to the plate that shifted it slightly to the left side. The bore is in nice shape with good rifling. The action is excellent. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 32-5/8 inches. Caliber: .45-70 GOVT Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1175 #8127 SOLD Antique: Yes |
