INDIAN WARS Antique SPRINGFIELD US Model 1870 TRAPDOOR Rifle .50-70 GOVT Made for the American Civil War & Converted to Centerfire!
Description: INDIAN WARS Antique SPRINGFIELD US Model 1870 TRAPDOOR Rifle .50-70 GOVT Made for the American Civil War & Converted to Centerfire! Here we present an antique Springfield U.S. Model 1870 Trapdoor Rifle in .50-70 GOVT, initially made circa 1864 then converted circa 1871 at the federal armory. Muskets were out and cartridges were in after the end of Civil War hostilities. The reunited American government wanted to update their arsenal without throwing out the hundreds of thousands of muskets they had just produced for the bloody fratricidal feud, so they utilized a breech-loading conversion invented and named for Erskine S. Allen, the Springfield Armory Master Armorer. This rifle is marked “1870/Federal Eagle/U.S.” on the top of the breech block. The lock is Civil War dated “1863” and marked “U.S. SPRINGFIELD”. The overall condition is near fine. Original finish. The action is excellent. The bore is shiny bright with sharp rifling. The walnut stock is in great shape and solid with a total of 4 clear cartouches: two from the initial manufacture of the musket and two from the conversion. There are the carved initials “EAM” under the lock. Bayonet fits nicely. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 32-1/2 inches. Caliber: .50-70 GOVT Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2500 #233172 SOLD Antique: Yes |
