INDIAN WARS Antique U.S. Springfield M1870 .50 GOVT. TRAPDOOR Conv. Rifle
Post-CIVIL WAR Single Shot MILITARY BREECH LOADER
Description: INDIAN WARS Antique U.S. Springfield M1870 .50 GOVT. TRAPDOOR Conv. Rifle Post-CIVIL WAR Single Shot MILITARY BREECH LOADER Here we present an antique Springfield U.S. Model 1870 Trapdoor Rifle, made circa 1870-73 in Springfield, Massachusetts. The Model 1870 was a trapdoor breechblock service rifle produced by the Springfield Armory for the United States military. Introduced in 1870, the Model 1870 was a minor improvement to the Springfield Model 1868 and retained most of the Model 1868 rifle features. It was produced in two variances, with the second following in 1871, both chambered for the .50-70-450 cartridge. It was the final design in a long line of such weapons using a design developed by Erskine S. Allin. The Trapdoor Rifle was the primary weapon in the U.S. military from the end of the Civil War to the end of the 19th Century, encompassing the Indian Wars and even the Spanish-American War in Cuba. It was still being used when the Springfield Model 1903 was adopted. These rifles were initially made by converting muzzle loading Civil War muskets to single load cartridges from the breech by installing a “trapdoor”. Later iterations were purpose built from the ground up and chambered for .45-70 GOVT, but these early conversion examples were chambered for the even more massive .50-70 GOVT, as is this example. The overall condition is very good. Original gray patina. Strong action. The bore is bright and sharply rifled. This example sports a solid stock with less than average wear. A hand inscription is present on the left buttstock. “1863” dated lock. Markings are legible. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 32-5/8 inches. Caliber: .50-70 GOVT Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1950 #258006 Antique: Yes Price: $1,950.00 Buy Now Pay with
