SPANISH AMERICAN WAR SPRINGFIELD U.S. MODEL 1879 TRAPDOOR .45-70 RIFLE. Serial number "2504XX" and correct to rest of gun so not a parts rifle. Correct original case colored receiver and tang. Crisp "Eagle" and "U.S./ Springfield" flush lockplate with solid hammer(no wiggle). Correct three stage hammer. Correct grooved trigger. Two barrel bands never been off with their original color and stamped "US". Trapdoor with correct "US/ Model/ 1873" stamp and solid lockup. Original barrel color just fading to patina and crisp correct "Eagle-head", "V/P" proofs. Correct sights. Solid original stock with "SWP/date" cartouche is a bit faded so can't make out date but visible. Original stock finish bever been sanded or lacquer added. Original buttplate and slinf swivels. Honest trapdoor been together since it left armory and issued in the 31st Michigan Inf. Volunteers serial range which saw service in Cuba during the Span-Am War. With later aftermarket correct style leather sling.
